Santoor is one of the ancient String Instruments of India.Its name has been derived from a Sanskrti word, Shata-tantri Veena meaning a veena with 100 strings. It has a Persian Origin. In India, it was earlier used in Kashmir and and played in a musical style known as Sufiana Mausiqi.Santoor is trapezoidal-shaped and is generally made of walnut or maple wood.Santoor is the only String instrument which is neither plucked nor bowed but it is played with mallets.Hence it can also be called as a type of percussion instrument.
